One half of the dynamic duo “Big Fun”, Joe Navarro realized his love for music at the young age of 13. His exposure to the “B-boy” culture in Toronto in the early 80’s had a big influence on his evolution as a DJ. Being immersed in an era of Disco, Funk, Breakbeats, Hip-Hop, RnB and of course House left its mark and will forever be in his heart and soul, which is what sets him aside as a versatile DJ. His love and passion for music and of course “happy people” on that dance floor is his driving force. He formed his first DJ crew (The Playboy Crew ) at the age of 14, and never looked back. His early influences as a DJ came from the likes of Mr. Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, and Roger Sanchez just to name a few.
His first residency was at Inner City Zone (1987) playing alongside Matt C and Jakes Hayes in North York, then moved on to Limelight (1989) along with other smaller venues, making his way up in the industry with a promising career.
Then life happened, fatherhood became priority so he made a decision to hang up the 1200’s and let the vinyl collect dust for a while with the intention of one day in the future, he would be back doing what he loves best.
Fast forward to 2013, when he decided it was time for his long anticipated return to his happy place, the DJ booth. Teaming up with the legendary Chico U (Club Z, Bedrock, Phoenix, Guvernment), they formed Big Fun Productions. Together they made their mark in the industry and established a big following. Joe has played alongside some Toronto legends which includes Tyrone Solomon, Jason Palma, Gmoney just to name a few, bringing people together through music and dance .
