Growing up in London, Ontario, Monika was influenced by the sounds of 1990s Detroit Techno. She begged her father for a pair of turntables as a teenager. He purchased her a pair of belt-drive turntables that she spent many hours practising on in her parent’s basement. One of her earliest shows was opening for the Crystal Method in London, Ontario. She has played alongside some of her key influences in techno, at events and clubs in Detroit, Toronto and London in the early 2000s. A highlight abroad was a set that she played at Tresor in Berlin for their ‘New Faces’ series.
Monika has a Computer Science degree and works as an IT professional for an Academy-award winning software company that creates tools for feature films. After a few years off from playing out to focus on other pursuits, Monika has returned with a new-found passion for techno and electro. She enjoys spinning on three decks and sharing her mixes. Monika has a soft spot for her analog hardware collection and is busy in the studio producing her own music. Musical influences include Aux 88, DJ T1000, Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Adult, The Advent, and Adam Beyer. Currently working towards completing her ARCT diploma in Piano Performance with the Royal Conservatory of Music, she leverages her musical training to create challenging mixes.
